Aerial Views - Liverpool John Lennon Airport

The new £32.5 million terminal development at Liverpool John Lennon Airport

With many thanks to Adrian Thompson and the Helicentre (and, not least, Schweizer 269C G-BZXJ - the camera-ship!), we are able to bring you this superb collection of aerial shots of the development work around Liverpool John Lennon Airport taken on 8th April 2002, adding yet another dimension to our coverage of all stages in the metamorphosis of our brand new airport...we hope you enjoy them! Click on the pictures for full-page images.

...........

The first photo, taken from south of the airfield, shows both the new and old control towers. The photograph on the right shows a close-up of the visual control room and cabin of the new control tower.

...........

The next two shots clearly show the development work being carried out on the apron side of the new terminal, with the new building now being extended in front of the existing structure, thus adding yet more capacity to the spacious new terminal.

...........

The above two shots are superbly unique pictures of three Boeing 767s on the apron at Liverpool. Two are Britannia Airways (old and new livery) and the other is British Airways. The aircraft were here to operate football charters for Liverpool FC.

...........

Above left is another superb shot of the three Boeing 767s on the apron on 8th April 2002. The above right shot shows the western end of the terminal building, new hangars, TNT offices and the Royal Mail building (far right).

...........

The above two photographs are taken from the north side of the new terminal and clearly show the extent of the development work, including some of the huge extension to the car park.

...........

Further views of the airport, showing the impressive developments.

Two more general views of the airport and the new £32.5 million terminal building.
